LKIM Allocates RM300,000 Per State For Agro MADANI Sales Programme

KANGAR, June 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) allocates about RM300,000 annually for each state to expand the Agro MADANI Sales Programme, aimed at ensuring consumers continue to enjoy fresh fish at affordable prices.

Its director-general Dr Abdul Salim Tajudin said the programme enables consumers to buy fresh fish at prices between 10 and 30 per cent lower than market rates through the “From Fishermen Direct to the Kitchen” approach.

“The programme is implemented consistently nationwide to ensure government spending delivers direct benefits to the target group,” he told reporters after officiating the Agro MADANI Sales Market Expansion Programme 2026 in Kuala Sungai Baru near here today.

In Perlis, 51 sales programmes have been held so far this year, involving the sale of 8,639 kilogrammes (kg) of seafood and generating estimated savings of more than RM84,000 for consumers, while improving access to fresh food supplies.

Visitors to today's programme received RM5 vouchers and enjoyed promotional prices during a ‘happy hour’ session, with selected products sold for as low as RM10 per kg.

Abdul Salim said 38 Agro MADANI Sales entrepreneurs in Perlis also received equipment assistance worth RM40,000 to strengthen the supply chain and marketing of local fisheries products.

Meanwhile, LKIM will provide assistance to families of fishermen affected by the fire that destroyed eight houses in Kuala Perlis early this morning.

He said two fishing families had been identified as affected, with immediate cash assistance to be provided subject to an assessment of their losses.

LKIM is also gathering further information on the incident, he added.
