MELAKA, June 13 (Bernama) -- A total of 25,000 participants are targeted to join the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Programme at National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) by the end of this year to expand AI literacy and help communities use the technology for income generation and productivity.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the programme, which rolled out this month, will expand across all 1,099 NADI centres nationwide and is open to all segments of society, regardless of age, background, or digital skill levels.

"This initiative aims to expose the public to the practical, safe, and responsible use of AI aligned with current technological advancements, while ensuring its benefits are enjoyed inclusively across urban and rural areas.

“The response received so far shows that public interest in learning and utilising AI technology in daily life, education, and employment is steadily increasing,” she said.

Teo told reporters this after closing the TikTok Shop Content Creator Education Training at Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) Tinggi Cina Melaka here today.

Also present were Kota Melaka Member MP Khoo Poay Tiong and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Melaka director Khairol Nizam Mohd Mostar.

Teo said the AI Programme at NADI also aims to enhance the public's ability to use the technology to empower themselves, increase productivity, and explore new opportunities in the digital economy.

She added that there are currently 39 NADI centres operational in Melaka, five of which are located within the Kota Melaka parliamentary constituency.

“NADI will continue to serve as a platform for community development through training and digital upskilling programmes in collaboration with stakeholders, elected representatives and strategic industry partners,” she said.

Meanwhile, Teo said MCMC is collaborating with major e-commerce platforms such as TikTok Shop, Lazada, and Shopee to produce more digital entrepreneurs through targeted training tailored to local community needs.

She said the content creator economy continues to grow rapidly, opening new avenues for youth to earn income on digital platforms by marketing products more creatively and effectively.

Teo also emphasised the need to empower society with strong digital literacy skills to combat the rise of fake content circulating online.

She disclosed that MCMC recorded 5,367 pieces of fake content in 2023, which surged to 17,245 in 2024, and reached 28,856 in 2025.

“As of May 31 this year, 2,517 pieces of fake content have been recorded. This misinformation appears in various formats, with some utilising manipulated images or altered news layouts designed to mislead the public,” she warned.

She added that structured training is vital to nurturing a new generation of content creators who are not only creative and competitive but also responsible, ethical, and focused on delivering beneficial content to the community.
