KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) is considering continuing the HAWANA 2026 Fun Walk in the future following the encouraging response to its inaugural edition held today.
Its chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said the participation of nearly 2,000 people reflected strong public support for activities that promote a healthy lifestyle while strengthening ties between media practitioners and the community.
She said the secretariat continued to receive applications even up to the closing date for registration, indicating keen interest in the programme held in conjunction with National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2026.
“With such a strong response, I believe it will be held again, as we have received very positive feedback from participants who described it as a very good initiative.
“Many also came with their families and young children, so it is very encouraging,” she told reporters after the programme at Titiwangsa Lake Gardens here.
The 2.6-kilometre walk was flagged off by Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah at 7.45 am.
Nur-ul Afida said the programme had also achieved its objective of strengthening relations between media practitioners, Bernama staff and members of the public of various ethnic backgrounds in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
“We can see the participation of various races in this Fun Walk, and that is our objective — walking while interacting and strengthening ties,” she said.
She said the success of the programme was also supported by about 14 strategic partners who set up booths to promote healthy lifestyle practices among the public.
The strategic partners included Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, Basic Tees, BigBigPlace, Maxim e-hailing, Cap Kunci, Milo, Extra Joss, Munchy’s Oat Krunch, Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA), MOMAwater, Yakult, ZUS Coffee, Selangor Fruit Valley and Sunshine Bakeries.
The highlight of the HAWANA 2026 celebration will take place in Penang on June 20 and is scheduled to be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
