PAM Honours Nga Kor Ming With President’s Award For Strategic Industry Collaboration

KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) has presented the PAM President’s Award to Minister of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Nga Kor Ming in recognition of the strategic coordination, policy engagement, and structural collaborations established between the ministry and the architectural profession to advance national built environment frameworks.

PAM in a statement said the award, presented during the institute’s annual dinner at a hotel here yesterday, is an esteemed accolade reserved for non-architect individuals who have rendered exemplary contributions to PAM, the profession, or the national construction industry.

“This year, the Institute recognises a ministerial tenure characterised by progressive policy updates, open industry dialogue, and a commitment to integrating competitive design standards within public sector procurement

“Under his ministerial leadership, KPKT has engaged constructively with industry stakeholders to refine professional standards, support digital transformation, and implement structural enhancements across the sector,” it said.

PAM highlighted five primary administrative and technical pillars that underpin the recognition, which include prioritising design excellence through architectural competitions for public buildings, particularly in the revitalisation of public markets.

The statement noted that to date, 10 public market design competitions have been organised, with six administered by local authorities and four facilitated by PAM.

Other pillars highlighted include supporting digital integration and strengthening professional practice;  continued collaboration between PAM and government agencies; continuous support for major industry platforms such as the International Architecture, Interior Design and Building Exhibition (ARCHIDEX) and the Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival (KLAF); and encouraging professional consultation and policy management.

The award places Nga alongside previous recipients including the principal author of the Handbook for PAM Contract 2006 Low Khian Seng (2009), director of One Utama Sdn Bhd Tan Seri Teo Chiang Kok (2010), and former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (2015).
