PUTRAJAYA, June 19 (Bernama) -- More than 10 associations and non-governmental organisations related to veterinary, livestock production and the livestock industry will gather for a global summit here for the first time this July.

Held in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, the Global Animal Production and Veterinary Industry Summit (GAVIS) 2026 will be held from July 21 to 23 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Noor Hisham Mohd Haron, who is also the organising chairman of GAVIS 2026, said the merger of all relevant organisations under ‘one roof’ was believed to strengthen the safety of the country’s food industry and livestock sector.

“We are targeting 1,200 conference participants including 108 presenters including 51 international presenters from Singapore, Australia, China, India, United Kingdom and Oman and over 5,000 visitors.

“We are now facing various global challenges that are becoming increasingly complex, such as climate change and the global energy crisis. So we need to speak out under one platform, combining our respective energies to ensure that the sustainability of this industry can continue to be achieved,” he said in a press conference regarding the organisation of GAVIS 2026 here today.

According to Dr Mohd Noor Hisham, various conferences and technical sessions will be held covering the fields of ruminants, animal diseases and diagnostics, animal feed, animal welfare, aquaculture and fisheries.

He said the involvement of foreign participants including professionals such as scientists opens up space for local scientists to combine expertise in related fields, thus driving the development of the country's animal industry.

GAVIS 2026 will also feature more than 100 exhibition booths and various products and services will be on display including veterinary equipment, animal feed, veterinary pharmaceuticals and industrial innovations.

Themed ‘One Voice, One Health, One Future’, GAVIS 2026 is also expected to witness the signing of several memorandums of understanding throughout the three days of the event.

Among the organisations involved are the Malaysian Veterinary Medical Association (MAVMA), Malaysian Society of Animal Production (MSAP) and Malaysian Association of Veterinary Pathology (MAVP).
