STR Cash Disbursement Programme Expanded To 20 Locations In Sarawak

LUNDU, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) Cash Disbursement Programme is being carried out at 20 locations across Sarawak to make it easier for recipients, particularly senior citizens, the infirm and those living in rural areas, to receive assistance.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the programme not only facilitates registration and eligibility checks but also enables eligible recipients to receive cash assistance directly.

“We are aware that some STR recipients do not have bank accounts. Therefore, we have introduced alternative methods to ensure the assistance reaches them.

“There are also recipients who are elderly or unwell. In such cases, they may appoint a representative to collect the assistance on their behalf, provided the necessary documents and supporting evidence are submitted,” he told reporters at the programme here today.

Amir Hamzah also encouraged recipients to open bank accounts to facilitate future aid disbursements.

“We understand that some recipients live in remote areas and travelling to town may involve additional costs such as transport expenses. If they have bank accounts, the assistance can be transferred automatically,” he said.

He added that nearly 900,000 people in Sarawak have benefited from the STR and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) initiatives.

STR is a targeted cash assistance programme provided by the MADANI Government to more than eight million low and middle-income recipients to help ease the cost of living.
