KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) -- The government's announcement to reduce the subsidised diesel price for Malaysians to RM2.10 per litre from next month has been described as a long-awaited news and relief for the users to help ease their fuel expenses.
Night market trader Mohd Faizal Ahmad, 43, from Shah Alam, Selangor, said the reduction would translate into substantial savings for him.
“With the lower price and the subsidy restricted to Malaysians, I am more confident that the assistance will reach the right group. I hope the MyKad verification process will be simple and convenient,” he told Bernama today.
Small-scale contractor Tan Chee Keong, 52, from Johor Bahru, who uses a four-wheel drive vehicle for maintenance work and the delivery of construction materials, described the measure as positive and fairer.
“Fuel costs are among my main expenses. If the system can ensure that the subsidy is not abused, then I believe it is a good move,” he said.
For vegetable farm operator R. Mageswaran, 38, from Sungai Siput, Perak, said the lower diesel price would help reduce his operating costs.
“I use a van to deliver vegetables to markets and eateries almost every day. When diesel prices are lower, it helps reduce operating costs and I hope it will proceed smoothly so that those who genuinely depend on diesel to earn a living can enjoy the benefits,” he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today that the MADANI Government will reduce the subsidised diesel price for Malaysians to RM2.10 per litre beginning July 2026, in line with the approach adopted under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme, with eligibility verified through MyKad.
He said Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan would provide further details on the implementation of the new subsidised diesel price tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance in a statement today said the reform would allow Malaysians nationwide to enjoy the same subsidised diesel price and mechanism, including in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
Currently, diesel is sold at the subsidised retail price of RM2.15 per litre at all petrol stations in Sabah and Sarawak, compared with the unsubsidised retail price of RM4.37 per litre in Peninsular Malaysia.
