Two Men Seriously Injured In Brawl In Jasin

JASIN, June 23 (Bernama) -- Two men were seriously injured in a fight between two groups on the roadside near the bus stop on Jalan Gapam here at midnight last night.

Jasin district police chief Supt Lee Robert said in the incident at about 12.10 am, one of the victims, a 21-year-old unemployed man, suffered head injuries, bleeding in the brain, a broken neck, fractured skull and wounds to his left ear.

He said another victim, a 28-year-old man who works as a lorry driver, suffered bleeding in the brain, a fractured left wrist and left leg, a dislocated elbow and bruises on his left arm.

"Initial investigations found that the fight involved two groups of men using their hands and a weapon believed to be a stick.

"The cause of the fight is believed to be jealousy when several unknown men called a 19-year-old man who works as a factory operator to return a bag belonging to a woman known as 'Rina'," he said in a statement here today.

He said the factory operator was then slapped by one of the suspects before the victim's brother, who was a lorry driver came to his aid when the fight broke out.

He said the two seriously injured victims were taken to the Melaka Hospital for further treatment and both were still unconscious due to brain haemorrhage.

Lee said closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage near the scene of the incident captured several men believed to be involved in the fight.

He said efforts were underway to track down and arrest the suspects involved in the fight between the two groups. 

He said the case is being investigated under Section 326 and Section 148 of the Penal Code.
