PM Approves Raising KRT Annual Grant To RM10,000

24/06/2026 08:30 PM

SEGAMAT, June 24 (Bernama) -- The government has agreed to increase the annual grant for Neighbourhood Watch Area (KRT) nationwide to RM10,000 compared to RM6,000 previously and will be disbursed on January 1, 2027.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the increase in allocation was made after the KRT annual grant rate remained at RM6,000 for the past 10 years despite the institution's important role in helping the government address various issues at the grassroots level.

"For 10 years, the allocation for KRT has remained at RM6,000 only, so this time I have agreed to increase it to RM10,000 for all KRTs which report on their development and activities to revive the spirit of consensus and unity," he said at the MADANI KITA Programme with KRTs at Dataran Segamat, today.

Also present were Deputy Minister of National Unity R. Yuneswaran and Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh.

Anwar said the role of KRT needed to be further strengthened because the institution helped revive the spirit of consensus, democracy and unity, as well as helping security personnel and government departments deal with security and community welfare issues.

He also reminded that Malaysia's strength lies in its ability to maintain harmony among its multi-racial and multi-religious people since independence.

According to him, racial, cultural and religious differences should not be used as an excuse to divide society, but rather should be celebrated as a national strength.

At the same event, the Prime Minister announced an immediate allocation of RM3.205 million for the implementation of 16 basic infrastructure repair projects at Islamic educational institutions in Johor.

He said the allocation involved upgrading and repair works at religious schools, madrasahs, study centres and tahfiz institutions in several districts including Batu Pahat, Muar and Segamat.

The Prime Minister said the MADANI Government was committed to strengthening facilities at Islamic educational institutions to ensure that students had a more comfortable and conducive learning environment.

Apart from that, Anwar also approved an immediate allocation of RM1.0 million to carry out critical and urgent repair work at the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) quarters in Johor to enable them to enjoy satisfactory facilities.

Anwar said the effort to upgrade the facilities of security personnel was important to ensure their welfare was maintained in line with the responsibility of maintaining national peace.
