IPOH, June 25 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims in Perak has dropped to 221 people from 67 families as of 8 pm today, with two temporary relief centres closed in the afternoon.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Secretariat said the two centres in the district of Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS), namely at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Ibol and Dewan Perdana Trong, were closed at 2 pm.
The LMS district SDMC chairman, Mohd Nasrul Menhat, said the two centres were closed after floodwaters in the affected areas fully receded and residents were able to return home.
Meanwhile, 101 victims from 28 families are still sheltering at the SK Matang Gelugor relief centre, while 69 people from 23 families are still being housed at the Dewan Terbuka Masjid Al-Wusta centre in the same district.
In Kampar, 51 people from 16 families continue to take shelter at the Gopeng Municipal Hall centre since June 20, after their homes in Kampung Ulu Geruntum, Kuala Razila, were cut off when a bridge collapsed due to a water surge.
Meanwhile, the Perak Drainage and Irrigation Department the water level at Sungai Slim is at the alert level of 24.9 metres (m), compared to the normal level of 23.5m.
