KUALA NERUS, June 28 (Bernama) -- A total of 80,672 units of Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR), valued at RM6 billion, have been built nationwide since the housing scheme was introduced in 2002, said Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) secretary-general Datuk Dr M Noor Azman Taib.

He said that of the total, 79,260 RMR units had been completed, while 1,422 units were still under construction.

M Noor Azman said Kelantan topped the list of RMR implementations with 12,156 units completed and 57 units under construction, followed by Terengganu with 10,286 completed and 154 ongoing, and Johor with 8,794 completed and 145 in progress.

“RMR is a scheme with a chain effect and multiple benefits, created specifically to help the target group own a home. This is part of the implementation of the National Housing Policy, which emphasises people’s access and ability to own a house.

“These houses come with three bedrooms and two bathrooms and a built-up area of 750 square feet, and are priced at RM90,000, with the government providing a RM20,000 subsidy while the remaining RM70,000 is an interest-free loan repayable over 17 years,” he said after officiating the key handover and offer letter ceremony for the Terengganu RMR at Dewan Ehsan, Felda Wilayah Timur, here today.

Meanwhile, M Noor Azman said SPNB had received 1,077 applications for the Kuala Nerus parliamentary constituency since 2002, with 837 housing units completed and handed over.

“Insya-Allah, this year, seven units are currently being implemented, while another 200 are on the waiting list.

“For the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary constituency, SPNB has received 818 applications since 2002, of which 723 housing units have been completed and handed over, while 16 units are currently under construction, with another 270 on the waiting list,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) recipient Muhammad Faiz Haikal Mohd Lazim said he was grateful after his application submitted last year was approved.

Having made two applications, including in 2023, the 33-year-old said his house had been completed and was now awaiting utility connections before he and his family could move in.

“My wife, children and I have been living with my mother since 2018 in a house shared by 12 people,, making the situation quite cramped. I hope to move into my new house as soon as the electricity and water supplies are connected,” he said.
