Melaka Kendurian Festival Offers Premium Durian Bufet At RM25

JASIN, June 30 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government will be organising the Melaka Durian Festival 'Kendurian' 2026 on July 5 by offering a premium Musang King and Black Thorn durian buffet at RM25 to the people of the state.

State Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Exco Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the programme, which will take place at Duta Riang Villa, Selandar, is also an effort to help smallholders in Melaka market their durian produce, while also enabling the public to enjoy quality durian at affordable prices.

"Despite the current durian glut in the market, the retail price of premium durians such as Musang King is still around RM25 to RM35 per kilogramme, while Black Thorn is almost reaching RM40 per kilogramme.

"So the state government has taken the initiative to organise this programme so that the people of Melaka who may not be able to afford premium durians have the opportunity to enjoy Musang King and Black Thorn at a much lower price," he told reporters after inspecting the festival site today.

Also present were Melaka Agriculture director Rozli Azizi Talib, Melaka Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) director Nor Azhar Abdul Hamid and assistant director of Tourism Malaysia Southern Region Norisyam Odzali.

Muhamad Akmal said the programme, which took place from 11 am to 4 pm, is also open to visitors from outside Melaka for a fee of RM50 per person, while children under 12 years old could enjoy durian with free entry.

He said the state government expected at least 12 metric tonnes of premium durians will be provided throughout the programme, with the amount being increased depending on visitors’ response.

"Melaka residents who wish to enjoy the RM25 offer must present their identification card as proof of eligibility, including holders of Melaka state coded identification cards, and the durian provided can only be enjoyed at the programme location.

"Each participant is allowed to enjoy unlimited durian for 20 minutes according to the designated slot," he said.

He said the Kendurian programme is also hoped to attract more tourists to Melaka in conjunction with the Visit Melaka Year 2024-2026 as well as open up more marketing opportunities for local durian farmers.
