MARA To Deploy Ex-Military Personnel As Full-time MRSM Wardens

30/06/2026 06:43 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) will gradually deploy four full-time wardens comprising former military personnel to every MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) to strengthen student discipline and character development.

Its chairman, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said the initiative will begin at 10 MRSMs this year before being expanded to all 58 colleges nationwide from January next year.

Each MRSM will have two male and two female wardens.

"The selection and screening process for the male wardens has been completed, while that for the female wardens is expected to be finalised this week.

"We introduced this initiative because former military personnel possess a high level of discipline and can help ease the burden on teachers, who are unable to serve as full-time wardens," he told reporters after the 2026 MARA Educators' Awards Day at  Premiera Hotel here today.

Asyraf Wajdi said the selection of former military personnel was carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and relevant agencies to ensure only those with good service records were chosen.

He said MARA would not compromise on issues involving student discipline, morality and character, as it is committed to producing graduates who are not only highly skilled and competent but also possess strong values.

In another development, he said MARA's education system continues to record encouraging results, particularly in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), with its graduate employability rate reaching 99.1 per cent.

He said MARA TVET graduates not only secure employment but also command premium starting salaries through strategic collaborations with various industries.

"Most recently, Samsung recruited 700 students with a starting salary of RM3,500. This proves that industries are keen to employ the highly skilled and competent talent produced by MARA," he said.

At the same event, Asyraf Wajdi said MARA had allocated RM145,000 for special excellence programmes at five MRSMs recognised as the country's top-performing schools in last year's Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.
