PKR WANITA AIMS TO TRAIN 100 WOMEN AT SWAN

PUTRAJAYA, May 8 (Bernama) -- PKR Wanita aims to train 100 women under the Women's School (SWAN) programme, a platform for education in democracy, politics, and social issues to cultivate future leaders, said its chief Fadhlina Sidek.

"This school is open to all (regardless of political affiliation), and we hope that women from all walks of life will participate, regardless of age and background.

"But what's important is that they are genuinely interested in mastering various segments and dimensions of knowledge as well as activism, preparing themselves to lead the country," she told reporters at the launching of the programme here last night.

SWAN was launched by Prime Minister’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also PKR Advisory Council chairman.

Fadhlina said the school will operate in a premises equipped with classrooms and instructors led by Principal Yong Bazilah Abu Bakar.

She added that several consultants and advisors have also been appointed to conduct sessions in this school.

"We will open registration as soon as possible, and classes will commence next month without any tuition fees," she said.

According to her, the focus of SWAN is certainly to produce trained community activists, community leaders, and national leaders.

"Moreover, we are also ready to field them in the upcoming elections," she said.

Meanwhile, Yong Bazilah said that among the modules offered at SWAN are politics, economics, advocacy, democracy, law and welfare.

"The duration of study is one year, but we also offer short-term courses that are relevant to current circumstances," she said.
