02/08/2024 02:11 PM

GUA MUSANG, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- Two helicopters will be used for the smooth tallying of vote in the Nenggiri state by-election which will start tomorrow.

Nenggiri state by-election returning officer Nik Raisnan Daud said the state constituency covers a wide area including five Orang Asli posts that are located far from the vote tallying centre at Dewan Perdana, Perdana Complex of the Gua Musang District Council.

"We will use the two helicopters to reach Pos Goh and Pos Simpoh because Pos Goh is 116 kilometres (km) from Gua Musang, while for Pos Simpoh the distance is 100 km.

"If we were to use a four-wheel drive vehicle, it will take six hours to get there," he told Bernama when met after inspecting preparations at the nomination centre in the Dewan Perdana here.

The Election Commission (EC) set tomorrow as candidate nomination day and polling day on Aug 17, while early voting day on Aug 13 will not be held after all 14 voters involved chose to vote by post, following their duty requirements throughout the campaign period.

The by-election was held after the seat was declared vacant by Kelantan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah on June 19 when the former incumbent Mohd Azizi Abu Naim was revoked of his party membership by Bersatu on June 13.

Regarding the preparations for the nomination day tomorrow, Nik Raisnan said so far everything is proceeding smoothly with a simulation for the nomination process also being held today.

"Alhamdulillah, today the preparations for the candidate nomination process went smoothly. There will be 424 personnel of the EC on duty tomorrow " he said.

He also reminded that, throughout the nomination process tomorrow, only 30 supporters for each candidate will be allowed to enter the surrounding area of the nomination centre.

"For the rest of the supporters, they are only allowed up to 50 metres from the compound," he said.
