Takfiri Ideology Must Be Addressed, Amanah Members Urged To Take Action - Mohamad

24/11/2024 09:24 PM

SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The takfiri ideology, used by certain groups as a political tool to portray Islam as being under threat in the country, is a dangerous perception that demands urgent attention.

Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said addressing this perception requires consistent efforts, and Amanah members have to play their part by countering it using factual arguments, whether on the ground, through direct community engagement or social media platforms.

He reminded that Pakatan Harapan (PH) was also a victim of this narrative during the last general election.

“The claim that Islam is under threat and must be saved by rejecting PH and its coalition partners was a perception planted by our opponents to manipulate the public mindset. This cost us 22 seats in Selangor, left us with only three seats in Kedah and none at all in Terengganu, as well as losses in other states.

“This ideology persists within society, and we will address it with sound arguments, in line with the concept of Islam as a blessing for all,” he told a press conference after officiating the Selangor Amanah Convention 2024 here today.

Also present were Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who is also Selangor PH chairman, Selangor Amanah chairman Izham Hashim and Selangor UMNO information chief Datuk Dr Mohd Zaidi Md Zain.

Meanwhile, Mohamad said that seat allocations for future elections would depend on discussions and decisions made by all parties in the Unity Government coalition.

He emphasised that regardless of the circumstances, the primary task is to ensure victory for any candidate from the Unity Government to sustain the nation’s development agenda.
