PKR APPROVES AMENDMENTS TO INCREASE DELEGATES VOTING FOR TOP POSTS

15/12/2024 03:25 PM

SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- The 2024 PKR Special National Congress today saw over two-thirds of delegates approve a series of constitutional amendments aimed at enhancing the party’s election process, notably increasing the number of delegates who will vote for the party’s leaders.

PKR secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh said the amendments would expand the number of delegates responsible for voting on the six highest party positions, as well as for 20 members of the Central Leadership Council (MPP) at the upcoming National Congress.

"This constitutional amendment also introduces the establishment of gender and ethnic quotas," she said in a statement issued at the end of the Special National Congress at Dewan Raja Muda Musa here.

Fuziah also said that the new dates for the 2024 and 2025 National Congress would be announced following a decision by the MPP in their next meeting.

The Special Congress, which was attended by Prime Minister and PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was conducted in a hybrid format to accommodate delegates from flood-affected areas.
