Lamag By-Election: Mohd Ismail Ramps Up Hybrid Campaign To Woo Voters

KINABATANGAN, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Lamag state by-election Mohd Ismail Ayob, is ramping up conventional and digital campaign approaches as a strategy to garner voter support.

He said the approach aims to ensure that his messages, manifesto and proposed development direction for the constituency are conveyed comprehensively to all segments of voters.

Mohd Ismail, better known as Miha, said his on-the-ground approach and face-to-face interactions with local residents allow him to explain directly the mission he carries, while also providing space to listen to and understand local issues throughout the campaign period.

At the same time, he said social media must also be utilised as a strategic channel during the campaign period, which now has seven days remaining, to reach young voters and Lamag constituents residing outside the area, as almost all segments of society now have access to digital platforms.

“Social media is very important in election campaigns because we know it is quite impossible to meet everyone in the community. Social media is also easily accessible and widely used by all segments of society.

“Therefore, campaigning on social media can help disseminate our mission, vision, direction and manifesto more widely,” he told reporters after conducting a walkabout at Bukit Garam Point here today.

Mohd Ismail expressed gratitude that the campaign carried out in nearly 80 per cent of the Lamag state constituency over the past week has received positive feedback from the local community, and he is optimistic about covering the entire constituency by polling day on Jan 24.

Meanwhile, touching on his manifesto, Mohd Ismail said it is expected to be launched tomorrow and will cover several key focus areas, including tourism, education, local issues and the basic needs of the community.

The Lamag state by-election, which sees Mohd Ismail being challenged by Mazliwati Abdul Malek of Warisan, and the three-cornered contest in the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election between Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar (BN), Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman (Warisan) and Goldam Hamid (Independent), are being held following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, 66, on Dec 5 last year.
