GUA MUSANG, June 24 (Bernama) -- About 1,000 Orang Asli residents here are urging authorities to immediately repair the collapsed road at Pos Tuel.
The plea comes as the route is the only road linking several Orang Asli settlements such as Haner, Gere, Poh, Gerbok, Ber, Tuel, and Tersok to Gua Musang town.
According to Pos Tuel village chief Halim Sharif, residents have been dealing with this problem since 2022, beginning with minor collapses along the roadside.
“However, over time, the collapses grew larger due to frequent rainfall and the daily use of various types of vehicles.
“Despite submitting several reports before the last fasting month, we have yet to receive any response,” he told reporters when met at Pos Tuel today.
Andol Busu, 55, said residents are forced to use a single lane due to the unsafe condition of another section of the road.
“The road is highly unsafe for users because it’s situated in a hilly area with steep slopes and frequent landslides. This has led to the closure of one lane along the route to the nearby villages,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gua Musang member of Parliament Mohd Azizi Abu Naim said the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) has approved an allocation for repairing the road.
“I urge the government to expedite the construction of the village road in the Orang Asli settlement area, as previously announced,” he said.
