SHAHRIL QUITS ALL POSTS IN FAM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) --  Selangor Football Association (FAS) deputy president Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar has made a surprising decision to resign from all his posts in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) with immediate effect.

Shahril, who was previously FAM's Sponsorship and Marketing Committee and the manager of the national Under-23 team, informed the governing body led by president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin of his decision today.

He also denied that his resignation was related to Selangor FC being fined RM100,000 and having three points docked by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) in the 2024/2025 Super League competition for not showing up for the season-opening Charity Shield match at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor on May 10.

"I informed FAM president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin this morning that I am resigning from all positions in FAM with immediate effect. The reason for my resignation will remain between me, FAM and Hamidin.

"It has nothing to do with any issue. I have been contemplating this for a long time, not just for a week or two. It’s better to focus on the club (Selangor FC) and FAS," he told Bernama when contacted today.

Yesterday, the Red Giants were also informed that they must compensate Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), the home team for the season-opening match, and the MFL, with the amount to be announced later while their Week 14 Super League match against JDT at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium will be played without spectators.

MFL Chief Executive Officer Datuk Stuart Ramalingam, however, said today that Selangor FC can appeal to the MFL and have until the end of this week to submit an official appeal letter to the local football league governing body.

Earlier, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah expressed disappointment by the decision of the MFL and members of FAM, particularly its president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, regarding the fine imposed on Selangor FC for failing to play in the Charity Shield match on May 10.
