KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 (Bernama) -- Telekom Malaysia Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd (TM Tech) has today entered into a contract with the government, represented by the Communications Ministry, to implement Next Generation Emergency Services 999 (NG999), valued at RM1.25 billion.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, it said the NG999 agreement is a continuation of the existing Malaysia Emergency Response Services 999 (MERS999) whereby all emergency numbers were integrated with a single number 999.

The NG999, according to the filing, will be “a strategic digital platform” for the public to access emergency services offered by five key emergency agencies nationwide.

This includes Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Kementerian Kesihatan, Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM), Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia (APMM) and Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (APM).

“This platform also integrates response centres operated by TM Tech with emergency agencies control and operation centres,” it said.

NG999 commences this year on an effective date to be determined by the government, for 12 years until 2036.

The services to be provided under the NG999 agreement will consist of call management services, infrastructure and platform services, connectivity services, NG999 support services, NG999 continuous improvement, and other NG999 added services on government request.

“The NG999 agreement is not expected to have any material effect on the consolidated earnings and net assets of TM Group for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2024.

“Barring any unforeseen circumstances, it is expected to contribute positively to the future earnings and net assets of TM Group over the contract period,” it said.
