WASHINGTON, July 2 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- US President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign said it had raised a record US$38 million in the four days since the first presidential debate that sparked widespread concerns about Biden’s cognitive abilities, reported Sputnik, citing The Washington Post on Tuesday.
Campaign officials noted that on the day of the debate and the day following it, Biden’s re-election campaign achieved its highest and second-highest fundraising records, respectively, in terms of grassroots sources, such as online and mail donations.
They also said that nearly half of the post-debate grassroots donations came from first-time donors.
At the same time, Biden’s poor performance during his first debate of the 2024 race with Republican front-runner Donald Trump, has reportedly led Democratic politicians, donors and other supporters to doubt his fitness to be the Democratic presidential nominee.
