MELAKA, July 4 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government, through various related agencies, will increase the advocacy programmes to address social issues involving students the state.

State Women's Development, Family and Community Committee chairman Datuk Kalsom Nordin said one of the initiatives is the Children's Advocacy Programme in collaboration with the Melaka Social Welfare Department (JKM). The programme aims to educate parents and students about current issues affecting young people.

“We are quite concerned about the current situation of our children, especially school students, including those in primary school, who are getting involved in inappropriate social activities such as vaping.

“Their involvement in these negative social activities includes both male and female students, and the numbers are quite high,” she told reporters here today.

She said this after officiating the Melaka State-level Father's Day Celebration 2024, organised by the Family Centre of the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), which was also attended by LPPKN Director Dr Annita Mohd Hedzir.

Kalsom stressed that the involvement of school students in unhealthy social activities must be curbed early to prevent them from engaging in more harmful behaviours and advised parents to remain vigilant and monitor their children's activities, including their close friends, rather than placing the responsibility solely on teachers.

Earlier, she said the Melaka State-level Father's Day Celebration 2024 was held to appreciate fathers in the state who serve as the pillars and protectors of their families.
