MELAKA PIONEERS GAMIFICATION CONCEPT AT CAREER CARNIVAL

MELAKA, July 13 (Bernama) -- Melaka has become a pioneering state in gamification concepts based on innovation and interactivity that job seekers need to navigate at the two-day MyFutureJobs Melaka Careertrans 2024 Carnival held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh starting today.

Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said initially, six companies or employers involved in the interview sessions used the gamification concepts, including CTRM Aero Composites Sdn Bhd and Puspakom.

He said the gamification concept was applied to the interview sessions in line with the move towards the Industry 5.0 revolution, which emphasises human-robot collaboration, adaptation to phenomena and cognitive systems.

"This sophistication pushed us to align with the revolutionary transition and sparked the idea of gamification stations as one of the screening techniques in interview sessions that are more enjoyable and suitable for the millennial generation.

"The selection of Melaka as a pioneering state in gamification concepts stems from the state government’s active focus on attracting investors to the state, thereby opening up more job opportunities," he told reporters after the opening ceremony of the MyFutureJobs Melaka Careertrans 2024 Carnival here today.

The carnival, offering more than 3,000 job vacancies in various sectors involving 40 employers, was officiated by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. It was also attended by state Deputy Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Siti Faizah Abd Azis.

Subahan explained that the gamification-based interview involves job seekers going through stations A and B, with Station A, known as the 'Brainy Challenge', involving cognitive screening through video game methods based on categories like memory, focus and brain processing speed.

He added that Station B comprises teamwork assessment through games like 'block builder', 'mini squash', and 'blind shooter', to be completed within a specified time frame.

"This gamification method not only ensures consistency in candidate assessment and reduces human error by interviewers but also benefits candidates by revealing their strengths and weaknesses through game results.

"As such, the use of gamification concepts will be expanded to future career carnivals to be held in other states," he said.

Earlier, he said that based on statistics from the MYFutureJobs National Job Portal, up to June last year, 110,003 jobs were offered nationwide, with 78,109 job seekers finding employment during the same period.

Meanwhile, Ab Rauf shared that according to statistics from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), the unemployment rate in Melaka for the first quarter of this year stood at 2.2 per cent, lower than the national rate of 3.3 per cent.

"The issues of graduate employability and the current competitive job market are often discussed topics in the employment landscape, and the state government is optimistic about enhancing comprehensive and sustainable economic development by focusing on developing Melaka as a centre of excellence in technical and vocational education and training (TVET)," he said.
