GEORGE TOWN, July 22 (Bernama) -- The Penang Town and Country Planning Department (JPBD) will produce the draft of the Penang South Island Local Plan 2050 (RTPSI 2050) upon completion of the RTPSI 2050 preliminary publicity programme which starts today until July 29.
Penang Infrastructure Corporation (PIC), a special purpose company to ensure the smooth implementation of the project, said the views and feedback of all stakeholders would be obtained to produce the best local plan document.
"The publicity programme that starts today aims to get views, ideas and suggestions from residents from all walks of life and communities towards producing a smart, sustainable and resilient development strategy," it said in a statement today.
Penang Local Government and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman H'ng Mooi Lye said the RTPSI 2050 will be a detailed reference for all proposals by the local planning authorities for development and land use.
It will be the main reference document for planning and development control, he said.
He said the preparation of RTPSI 2050 is a key platform and pragmatic step by the state government as an initiative to shape new development on newly reclaimed land areas based on appropriate development controls and in line with the current state scenario.
“The approach to be taken will be slightly different compared to the preparation of the development plan for local authorities in Malaysia because this is the first time the RTPSI 2050 is drawn up which is based on smart development, resilience, well-being and sustainability," he said.
According to H'ng, the preparation of RTSPI 2050 involves two main things, namely the legal aspect and planning requirements because it is subject to the provisions of Section 12 to Section 16B, Act 172.
He said the document must contain proposal maps and written statements supported by implementation guidelines.
The Penang South Island, now known as the Silicon Island project for Island A, is an ongoing reclamation project off the southern coast of Penang Island to create an island covering 2,300 acres of land.
