KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- Premier homegrown jeweller HABIB today launched its limited edition 999.9 gold wafer coin Sports collection, in conjunction with the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Its senior general manager, Mohd Zaruddin Mahmud said the 0.2-gramme gold wafer coin, priced at RM138 per unit, comes with four different designs inspired by four favourite sports of Malaysians namely cycling, diving, gymnastics and badminton.
He said the launch of the gold wafer coins is aimed at supporting the Malaysian contingent to the prestigious sports event and to uplift the spirit of unity, pride and sportsmanship among Malaysians.
"The coin designs are more towards sports events that are enjoyed by our community, and each pattern is in vibrant colours depicting expressions of energy, spirit and joy," he said when met by Bernama at the HABIB Jewellery Exhibition at The Curve, Damansara in Petaling Jaya today.
He said enthusiasts of limited editions or sports should get the gold wafer coins which are limited to 5,000 units only and these can be purchased at all HABIB showrooms as well as e-commerce platforms.
He said customers can get the collection at a price of RM552 for a set of four coins.
Mohd Zaruddin said in addition to encouraging people to buy gold as a form of savings or investment, the gold wafer coin concept is also a collection to commemorate any historical event.
"In the past, people might give ‘duit raya’ as gifts but now we make these gold wafer coins to foster people's interest in jewellry…the amount maybe small but after a few years prices will go up," he said.
Mohd Zaruddin said HABIB is also offering discounts of up to RM40 for each gramme on selected 916 gold (items) during the jewellery exhibition at the shopping centre’s foyer until next Aug 4.
"When the price of gold increases, associations such as the Malaysian Gold Association will provide suggested retail gold prices. For HABIB, we will usually offer gold price discounts such as a RM40 discount per gramme for selected 916 jewelery as a privilege to customers," he said.
He also said the exhibition offers more interesting designs including the unique Oro Italia 916 jewellery that can only be found at HABIB.
"The uniqueness of the Oro Italia 916 is that it is handmade by the best craftsman from Italy which has the technology,” he added.
