JBPM Updating ABMS To Ensure Members’ Integrity At Highest Level

PUTRAJAYA, July 29 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) is updating its Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) to ensure the integrity of its officers and personnel are at the highest level.

Its director-general, Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said the ABMS used by the Procurement Division will be expanded to be used by the department’s Fire Safety Division.

"When there is this system (ABMS), it will allow us to have an organised framework to provide officers involved in the Fire Safety Division with knowledge related to integrity," he said at a press conference after the JBPM monthly assembly here today.

He said his team also wants to create a whistle-blower culture so that any party will not be afraid to report any lack of transparency in the JBPM

"We will create a safe environment for them to report to us and show them that we are responsive and will act on the complaints made," he said.

Earlier in his speech, Nor Hisham said the JBPM received 47 cases of complaints from the public on the integrity of the department, eight of which were related to the Fire Safety Division.

"I understand we are in the final phase of the ABMS, involving aspects of the Fire Safety Division's duties, and it is expected to be completed in October.

“It will be more helpful in reducing the number of integrity-related cases," he said.

Meanwhile, he also recorded his thanks to the Malaysia Zero Emission Vehicle Association (MyZEVA) for donating Vehicle Fire Blankets (VFB) to the JBPM today.

“The VFB can help the department in dealing with fire cases, especially those involving electric vehicles (EVs)," he added.
