SHAH ALAM, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The SkyCity tower that is being developed in the digital city of i-City here is set to become a new landmark as well as an additional attraction for the city of Shah Alam and the tourism sector in Selangor.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the 60-metre (m) high tower, featuring a 600m-long glass slide built at a cost of about RM15 million, would further enhance i-City’s existing attraction to domestic and foreign tourists.

“Based on the latest tourism data, i-City is one of the major attractions for visitors coming to Shah Alam, and I hope the construction of the SkyCity tower will further boost tourist arrivals in Selangor.

“i-City is listed as a tourism product for the Visit Selangor Year 2025 and I am confident the construction of the SkyCity tower will be an additional factor in attracting more tourists to this smart city,” he told reporters after the SkyCity groundbreaking ceremony here today.

Also present was Selangor i-City chairman Tengku Datuk Seri Ahmad Shah Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.

Meanwhile, Tengku Ahmad Shah, in his speech, said the tower, which decorated with LED lights, is expected to be opened to the public on Dec 11, coinciding with the birthday of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah

Tengku Ahmad Shah noted that i-City would play a pivotal role in achieving the Visit Selangor Year 2025 goals of attracting an estimated five million visitors next year to help the state surpass its target of seven million tourists, further solidifying the state as a premier travel destination.

"We believe that SkyCity will be the cherry on top of the cake. By offering unparalleled experiences, we are confident that i-City will draw five million visitors from around the globe next year, contributing significantly to the success of the Visit Selangor Year 2025’s goal of attracting seven million tourists,” he said.

Tengku Ahmad Shah also expects the glass water slide, which allows visitors the experience the feeling of “swimming in the sky and flying on the water" to be a main draw next year for both domestic and international visitors.
