WASHINGTON, Aug 7 (Bernama-dpa) -- Online holiday rental platform Airbnb reported a decrease in income for the second quarter, despite an increase in revenue and listings surpassing 8 million, the company announced on Tuesday.

German news agency dpa reported that the company's earnings came in at US$555 million, or US$0.86 per share. This compares with US$650 million, or US$0.98 per share, in last year's second quarter.

The company's revenue for the quarter rose 10.6 per cent to US$2.748 billion from US$2.484 billion last year.

Airbnb co-founder and chief executive Brian Chesky said it was a strong quarter for the company.

"I'm proud of our results and the quality that our platform continues to deliver for hosts and guests around the world."

There were now more than 8 million active listings on the platform, Airbnb said.

"But we're not just growing supply; we’re committed to ensuring it's high quality."

Since April 2023, Airbnb has removed more than 200,000 listings that  "failed to meet our guests' expectations to ensure we consistently deliver high-quality stays," the company said.
