MELAKA, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- The state government will intensify its promotion of the 2024 Visit Melaka Year (TMM2024) by organising more large-scale programmes before the year ends.
State Tourism, Heritage, Art and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman said the programmes would be carried out to achieve the target of 15 million to 18 million tourist arrivals in the state this year.
He said they included the 11th ASEAN Ministers of Culture and Arts (AMCA) Meeting from Oct 21 to 26, the 2024 ASEAN Cup International Regatta (Oct 21 to 27), the International Air Festival and the Melaka River Festival, also to be held next month.
“The state has recorded 8.7 million tourist arrivals as of July and I am confident that with four months left, the target will be achieved,” he told reporters at the closing of the 18-kilometre MADANA Merdeka Cycling at Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Temu here today.
The cycling event, which attracted about 1,000 participants, was held in conjunction with the 67th National Day celebration.
Meanwhile, Abdul Razak, who is Telok Mas Assemblyman said the Merdeka MADANI Cycling Programme will be made an annual event in the Telok Mas state constituency.
He said more sports programmes would also be included in the state tourism calendar.
"We see sports activities or events have the potential to attract many tourists, especially among young people,” he said.
