MOSCOW, Sept 1 (Bernama-dpa) -- Massive Ukrainian drone attacks have hit a refinery in Moscow and two power plants, the German news agency (dpa) reported, quoting Russian reports on Sunday.

A fire broke out at the Kapotnya refinery located in a southeast district of Moscow, but the fire brigade was able to contain it after some time, according to the state news agency TASS.

Attacks on a power plant on the southern outskirts of Moscow and on a power plant in the Tver region around 100 kilometres northeast of the metropolis were officially confirmed.

Russian media published unconfirmed videos online suggesting that these plants were also on fire. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported on Telegram that debris from drones fell on the outskirts of Moscow.

The Defence Ministry in Moscow announced that 158 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted at night over 15 different Russian regions.

The number cannot be independently verified, but it is the highest number reported to date for a Ukrainian drone attack.
