CAMBODIA

 

1. MIXED MARTIAL ARTS ATTRACTS 200 FIGHTERS -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESS

Nearly 200 athletes have signed up for the first Samdech Thipadei Award Khmer Traditional Mixed Martial Arts Championships. The competition will be held at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh from October 18 to 20 to unearth new talents in the mixed martial arts category.

 

2. TEST FLIGHTS AT TECHO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT -- KHMER TIMES

Techo International Airport will begin a five-day test flight programme starting Monday as the new airport plans full operations in mid-2025. Nearly 80 percent of the work, at the US$1.5 billion airport, located about 20 kilometres south of Phnom Penh has been completed.

1. SUPER TYPHOON TO HIT LAOS SUNDAY MORNING-- LAOS NEWS AGENCY

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has warned residents to be prepared for strong winds and heavy rainfall as Typhoon Yagi is expected to arrive in Laos on Sunday morning. Authorities are on high alert for possible flooding, landslides and urban inundation due to continuous heavy rain.

 

2. BAN ON IMPORT OF EXPENSIVE CARS -- LAOS NEWS AGENCY

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has imposed a temporary ban on importing motor vehicles, including SUVs, sedans, vans, and pickup trucks valued at over US$50,000. It is to reduce imports and address shortages of foreign currency, trade deficits, substandard vehicles and to curb inflation.
