Penang's Para SUKMA Medallists To Receive Same Incentives As Able-bodied Athletes

KEPALA BATAS, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- Penang's para-athletes who win medals at the 21st Malaysia Para Games (Para SUKMA) in Sarawak from Sept 22-28 will receive the same incentives to be given to their able-bodied counterparts who won medals at last month's SUKMA.

State Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, however, did not divulge the amount to be given out under the state's Sports Excellence Incentive Scheme (SKIMAS), saying it would be announced soon.

"No discrimination between the para and able-bodies athletes. Everyone who delivers a medal will get the same reward,” he told reporters after Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow handed over the state flag to the Penang contingent bound for the Para SUKMA 2024 here today.

Daniel, also the Penang chef de mission, said they have set a target of 16 golds, 12 silvers and 17 bronzes from the 113 events (10 sports) that their 83 para-athletes will be competing in.

He added that they are also considering giving special incentives to coaches who have been training the para-athletes voluntarily.
