MELAKA, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The Melaka state government is offering a Special Free Parking Initiative to tourists and visitors in the state, involving all 34,764 parking bays in four local authorities (PBT) starting tomorrow until Sept 20.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Bin Yusoh said the free parking offer involved 14,876 parking spaces under the Historic Melaka City Council (MBMB), 5,000 parking lots under the Alor Gajah Municipal Council (MPAG), 3,500 parking spaces under the Jasin Municipal Council (MPJ) and 11,388 Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) parking lots.
“This Free Parking Special Initiative is held in conjunction with the Malaysia Day (Sept 16) and Maulidur Rasul celebrations which takes place during the school holidays, in addition to the Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024) campaign."
“This special offer of free parking is a symbolic manifestation of the state government’s appreciation to tourists and visitors, where from January to July, Melaka recorded the arrival of more than 8.7 million tourists and visitors,” he said in a statement today.
He said the state government continues to welcome the arrival of tourists to Melaka and hopes that this free parking initiative can drive the economic growth of the tourism sector in conjunction with TMM2024.
