Sarawak Premier Approves RM55.6 Million For Pulau Bruit Development

MUKAH, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has today approved an allocation of RM55.6 million to spur development on Pulau Bruit in the Daro district near here, ensuring the area is included in the state’s growth plans.

The funds will support several key projects, including a RM45 million affordable housing scheme, the construction of an agricultural centre and food court valued at RM5 million and RM5.6 million worth of repairs for the Semop Fishermen’s Resettlement Housing Project.

"We will implement a new housing scheme similar to those in Kampung Datu and Kemuyang in Sibu. I have approved 56 lots, each approximately 12 points in size (about 486 square metres)," Abang Johari said when officiating at Pesta Pulau Bruit 2024 at the Semop Rural Growth Centre (RGC) today.

He added that the three-bedroom houses will be priced at RM150,000 per unit, with the Sarawak government subsidising a RM10,000 deposit for each homebuyer.

"We will initially build 56 units and if there is high demand, more houses will be constructed for Pulau Bruit," he added.

The new agricultural centre and food court, to be developed near the Semop RGC, are expected to boost the local economy and improve livelihoods on Pulau Bruit.

Regarding the Semop Fishermen’s Resettlement Housing Project, Abang Johari said that while the list of eligible occupants has been finalised, repair work is required due to damage to the homes, which have been left incomplete for some time.

"I have instructed the Sarawak Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) to conduct repair work block by block, with one block completed every six months until all 307 housing units are fully restored,” said Abang Johari.

The state government will utilise its own funds to carry out these repairs, and once each block is completed, residents will be moved in gradually until all homes are ready for occupation.

In addition, a clean water supply project, worth over RM60 million, is expected to be completed by the end of this year. This project will provide five million litres of clean water daily to Pulau Bruit, significantly improving the quality of life for residents.
