AI Revolution Transforming The Job Market, Creating New Roles - Sim

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- The revolution of artificial intelligence (AI) will create new roles that are currently uncommon in the job market but are expected to gain significant prominence in the near future, said Human Resource Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong.

He highlighted emerging positions such as machine learning specialists, cloud engineers, digital transformation and adoption analysts and employee well-being officers as examples of roles that will become increasingly important as AI technology evolves.

However, he noted that approximately 16 per cent of 97 existing job roles, particularly in the financial sector, are likely to be affected by AI revolution, which might result in the displacement or convergence of certain positions.

“In this aspect, we are looking at roles such as customer service officers, investment advisory and execution analysts, direct sales agents and business development managers, among others,” he said.

The minister said this in his speech at the launch of the National Human Capital Conference and Exhibition (NHCCE) 2024, organised by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) here today.

Also present were Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad, Human Resource Ministry secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof and HRD Corp chairman Datuk Abu Huraira Abu Yazid.

Sim also highlighted how AI has significantly accelerated various work processes within agencies under the ministry.

He cited HRD Corp as an example, noting that the approval process of grant applications, which typically takes up to a week, has been reduced to just one day.

“To be exact, AI has shortened the duration of HRD Corp’s grant application process from 154 hours in 2022 (covering a total of 239,776 applications) to only 19 hours in 2023 (with 359,170 total applications).

“Another example is the Social Security Organisation, which previously required three days to issue a guarantee letter to contributors needing hospitalisation for free medical treatment, now only takes an hour with the help of AI,” he said.

The NHCCE, HRD Corp’s flagship annual conference, promotes a modern and innovative approach to human capital development, with the theme ‘Humanising AI for the Future Workforce’ this year.

NHCCE 2024 also features over 300 exhibitors, showcasing the latest trends in upskilling models, wellness platforms and cutting-edge technologies.
