GEORGE TOWN, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- The Penang Regional Development Authority (PERDA) hopes the government will give more attention to rural community development in Penang in the upcoming Budget 2025.

PERDA General Manager, Datuk Mohd Asri Baharum, said that as an agency committed to advancing the rural community in the state, they have submitted several proposals they hope will be prioritised to ensure the planned initiatives can be realised, benefiting target groups such as the B40 community, youth, and entrepreneurs.

“PERDA hopes Budget 2025 will focus on the Rural Smart STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Programme, which aims to empower rural schools and encourage more students to engage in STEM-based education.

“This programme will play a crucial role in preparing the younger generation to face future technological challenges and increase digital literacy in rural areas,” he told Bernama.

In efforts to help the B40 group own homes, Mohd Asri said PERDA also prioritises the People's Housing Well-Being Programme (PPKR) and thus hopes more funding will be given for this..

Budget 2025, themed ""Ekonomi MADANI, Negara Makmur, Rakyat Sejahtera" will be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Parliament on Oct 18.
