Santuni MADANI: Bernama To Give Exposure To Journalism, Promote Media Literacy

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) will provide exposure to journalism as a potential career to the young community of Kampung Batu Laut, Tanjung Sepat in Sepang through the "One Leader, One Village" (Santuni MADANI) programme tomorrow.

Its chief executive officer, Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, said that as an agency under the Ministry of Communications, Bernama will also share its knowledge and promote media literacy while implementing various programmes in stages for its 'adopted village' community to enhance their skills, discover their talents, and unlock their potential in relevant fields.

“We may not be experts in certain areas like medical or healthcare, but at Bernama, I see this as an opportunity to go on the ground to introduce Bernama and inform the public about our functions and roles in representing the voice of the government and the people.

“We want the public to know how we operate and take this chance to introduce journalism itself. Apart from that, we also aim to raise awareness on how to view news in a positive light,” she said when featured in Bernama TV’s ‘Apa Khabar Malaysia’ programme today.

She said Bernama is committed to supporting the government’s aspirations through this programme as part of efforts to enhance the village’s potential and the community’s capabilities through direct engagement and interactive sessions.

Nur-ul Afida said that Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government, Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sepang, is scheduled to officiate the event, which will also be attended by the Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin.

The programme, which is set to begin at 8 am, features various activities such as exhibition booths, English language workshops, writing workshops, a reading corner, lucky draws, television and radio hosting auditions, and a showcase of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme.

Nur-ul Afida also expressed hope that the programme organised by Bernama would help improve the learning process for children, especially those struggling with English.

“A total of 80 of our staff will be involved, and I hope that the residents of Kampung Batu Laut and nearby villages will come and liven up the programme tomorrow,” she added.

The Santuni MADANI programme aims to enhance village potential and community capabilities through direct engagement and interactive sessions to identify socioeconomic issues and the needs of the residents.

The initiative involves Cabinet members, top government officials, and government-linked companies.
