JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- Youth leader Lim San Shien, who is also the Johor Unity Ambassador, was appointed to be Johor Bahru Prosperity Ambassador to act as the front-line man of the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) to fuel volunteering activities among Johor citizens.
Through a statement issued by MBJB today, Lim who is also a law graduate of Universiti Malaya (UM), was appointed by MBJB Mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Datuk Osman after the city council’s plenary meeting number 9 of 2024.
According to the statement, the Johor Bahru Prosperity Ambassador will also play a role in leading social and community activities as well as facilitating the initiatives and implementation of impactful programmes organised by MBJB.
“Among the main MBJB programmes that the ambassador will be participating in include the JB City Neon Recreational Night, JB Car Free Morning, river-cleaning programme, Johor Bersih activities, as well as environmental sustainability and community-friendly programmes in the MBJB zone,” said the statement.
Meanwhile, according to Lim, who is also the Johor Student Leadership Icon, he intends to pursue the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2030) with a focus on the 11th Goal, namely ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’ and goal number 17 - ‘Partnerships for the Goals’.
According to Lim, in addition to the SDGs, his priority is also on Local Agenda 21 (LA21) which is a global initiative that emphasises the involvement of three parties, namely the local authorities, the community and the private sector, to work together and manage the environment towards sustainable development.
“Now that I have been appointed by the Mayor of MBJB as Prosperity Ambassador, I will focus all my energy and commitment with extraordinary determination to fulfill my responsibility in improving the well-being of the people and advancing the development of the city.
“I also wish to apply the whole-of-government approach to collaborate with various ministries, agencies, departments, associations and organisations in organising people’s programmes and merging synergies for the benefit of the country.
“I am a hardworking person, and wish to serve wholeheartedly … so that the city of JB and the community become truly prosperous," he said.
