SINGAPORE

1. SINGAPORE ECONOMY GROWS 4.1% IN Q3, MORE THAN EXPECTED, ON MANUFACTURING REBOUND -- THE STRAITS TIMES

Singapore’s economy grew 4.1 per cent year on year in the third quarter of 2024, much faster than the 2.9 per cent growth in the previous quarter, according to official advance estimates.

 

2. MAS KEEPS MONETARY POLICY UNCHANGED, EXPECTS INFLATION TO DECLINE FURTHER -- CNA

Inflation in Singapore is expected to ease, as the country's central bank kept its monetary policy unchanged on Monday (Oct 14).

 

LAOS

1. LAOS-SINGAPORE PROMOTE PRECIOUS METAL MARKET -- VIENTIANE TIMES

The Lao Bullion Bank and the Singapore Bullion Market Association inked an agreement to develop Laos' precious metals market. The deal includes exchanging industry experts, developing market strategies and providing consultancy services to transform Laos into a precious metal hub in the region.

         

2. FLOOD VICTIMS RECEIVE AID FROM INT’L NGO -- VIENTIANE TIMES

International non-governmental organisation Save the Children distributed non-food items to 402  flood- affected families in seven villages in Luang Prabang province. The humanitarian effort, worth RM500,000, reached 1,897 individuals, including 26 disabled people. It  will help families rebuild their homes and schools.

 

MYANMAR

1. MYANMAR MARKS 104TH FILM DAY -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Myanmar celebrated its 104th Myanmar Film Day on Sunday at the Myanmar Motion Pictures  Organization office attended by government leaders, veteran artistes, actors, and actresses. The event  was to mark the film industry’s century-old legacy and its contribution to the nation. 

 

2. CASH AID TO FLOOD-AFFECTED FAMILIES -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Myanmar is helping families affected by recent floods with cash, interest-free loans and soft loans to  restart their lives. Families will receive close to RM2,000 for every family member killed during the recent floods. Nearly a million people were affected and 520 people lost their lives.

 

INDONESIA

1. JOKOWI’S SON-IN-LAW UP AGAINST PDI-P CANDIDATE IN N. SUMATRA -- JAKARTA POST

North Sumatra’s more than 10 million voters will select their new governor in November, choosing between the province’s former governor Edy Rahmayadi and strongly backed Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution, the son-in-law of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

 

2. BALI IMMIGRATION CONFIRMS TOURIST DEPORTATIONS ARE ON THE RISE -- THE BALI SUN

Immigration teams in Bali have confirmed that deportations from the province continue to rise. As Bali Immigration enters its next phase of Operation Jagratara, a crackdown focused on foreigners breaking the conditions of their visas, officials have revealed details about the latest wave of deportations from the island.

1. FIRST PHASE OF NAGA WITH ROAD ALONG MEKONG RIVER TO OPEN IN 2027 -- THE NATION

The first phase of Naga Withi, a new scenic road along the Mekong River in the Northeast of Thailand, is expected to open in 2027, the Department of Rural Roads revealed on Sunday.

 

2. THAI BUSINESSES ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE EFFECT ON OIL PRICES, SHIPPING COSTS AND THE LOCAL CURRENCY -- BANGKOK POST

With the Middle East on the verge of all-out war, Thai businesses are concerned about the effect on oil prices, shipping costs and the local currency.
