DUBAI, Oct 14 (Bernama) — The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has engaged with the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) of Abu Dhabi, exploring collaborations in education and technology development at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) Global 2024.

The ATRC, known for its strong research in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and quantum computing, will establish collaborations with Malaysian universities to integrate advanced technology modules into the curriculum, said MDEC head of digital industry acceleration, Wan Murdani Wan Mohamad.

“These partnerships are expected to improve our education system and open the Abu Dhabi market to Malaysian tech firms.

“We discussed the potential of co-creating solutions with AI71, a company seeded by the ATRC, allowing our Malaysia Digital companies to address the demand in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) market,” he told Bernama after several meeting sessions at GITEX Global 2024.

Wan Murdani said MDEC has also identified smart city solutions as one of its potential investments, following discussions with Moscow’s Department of Information Technologies.

He added that the Russian delegation will visit Malaysia in November to explore smart city initiatives and business matchmaking with local firms.

“Moscow is strong in smart city solutions, and we are excited to see what opportunities lie ahead for Malaysian companies.

“Their delegation will bring companies to Malaysia for potential investment and partnership in smart cities, and we are preparing to facilitate these partnerships,” he added.

He further explained that the discussions are part of MDEC’s broader mission to strengthen Malaysia’s digital ecosystem through international collaborations and are expected to boost the nation’s smart city infrastructure as well as accelerate the sector’s growth.

MDEC’s participation in GITEX Global 2024, the largest technology event in the world, from Oct 14-18 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, underscores its commitment to positioning Malaysia as a digital gateway to ASEAN through global partnerships.

Running concurrently, the Expand North Star 2024 (ENS 2024), the world’s largest startup and investment show held from Oct 13-16 at the Dubai Harbour, also showcases 15 Malaysian companies in a 120-square-foot pavilion led by MDEC.

With over 6,500 exhibiting companies, 1,800 startups, and 1,200 investors from more than 180 countries, these events are set to propel the next generation of AI-driven technologies.
