Flood: More Evacuees Reported In Perak, Pahang

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims in Perak and Pahang recorded an increase this morning, while in Kedah and Melaka it has dropped.

In PERAK, the number of victims increased to 1,682 people involving 528 families at 10 relief centres (PPS) in five districts in the state - Kerian, Kuala Kangsar, Hulu Perak, Muallim and Hilir Perak.

According to the Secretariat of the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), the PPS at Dewan Kampung Batu 4 in Muallim was closed at 8 am today, with the remaining 596 victims (157 families) at the PPS at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kuala Slim and SK Slim River.

"However, at 9 pm yesterday, the PPS at Dewan Serbaguna Padang Tembak, Hilir Perak, was opened to accommodate 38 victims from 14 families," it said in a statement.

In Kuala Kangsar, the number of victims increased to 720 (255  families) at three PPS -- SK Lasah, Dewan Pandak Hamid, Bawon Orang Asli One-Stop Centre (OAOSC) in Sungai Siput and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) RLKT Lasah.

In Hulu Perak, the number of flood victims increased to 224 people (68 families) at the PPS at SK Kerunai and SK Pahit, while in Kerian, the number remained at 104 people (34 families) at the PPS at SK Changkat Lobak and SK Parit Haji Aman, Bagan Serai.

In PAHANG, the number of flood victims in Temerloh recorded an increase, with 1,282 people (373 families) at six PPS from 1,247 people (360 families) at five PPS yesterday.

Based on the Social Welfare Department InfoBencana,  Dewan SMK Seri Semantan accommodates  618 victims, followed by SK Desa Bakti with 566 victims, SK Lanchang (36), Balairaya Mempateh (30), Masjid Kampung Bongsu (20) and SK Mentakab (12). 

Meanwhile, in KEDAH, the number of victims in the four flood-affected districts dropped to 1,490 people (482 families) as of 8 am today. from 1,561 people (501 families) last night.

According to Kedah Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) deputy-director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain, all the victims are at 12 PPS with Baling district recording the highest number, totalling 682 people from 242 families in five PPS.

"In Pendang district, 385 people (104 families) are at  two PPS, Kota Setar, with 385 victims  121 families) at four PPS and Pokok Sena 38 people from 15 families in one PPS," he said in a statement today.

In MELAKA, the number of flood victims in Jasin decreased to 212 people involving 70 families at 8 am today compared to 243 people involving 81 families last night.

The JPBN Secretariat in a statement said the victims, who are residents of Kampung Kilang Berapi and Lubok Buaya, are at four PPS namely SMK Dang Anum, SK Serkam Darat, SK Tedong and SMK Dato Abdul Rahman Ya'kob.
