LAHAD DATU, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- Disaster Operations Control Centres (PKOB) have been activated to prepare for the extreme high tides expected to hit Lahad Datu tomorrow, Lahad Datu district disaster management committee chairman Firuzidzualdeen Benetty Mohd Dzul said.
Potentially affected areas include Kampung Silam, Kampung Air Puyut, Kampung Sabah Baru, Kampung Desa Bajau, Kampung Dasar Baru, Kampung Tanjung Paras, Kampung Taruakan and Kampung Lok Bikin, he added.
"Residents in high risk areas, especially in water villages, are advised to remain vigilant and to take precautionary measures and to immediately contact the authorities, including the Lahad Datu district PKOB at 089-880991, if they require emergency aid or further information,” he said in a statement here today.
The Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia issued an extreme high tide warning for tomorrow involving three stations, at Pulau Langkawi, Pulau Lakei and Lahad Datu.
