MOSCOW, Oct 18 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- US President Joe Biden has called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to "move on" and conclude a ceasefire agreement to bring the Gaza conflict to the end after the elimination of Palestinian movement Hamas’ leader Yahya Sinwar, reported Sputnik.

"I told him [Netanyahu] that we were really pleased with his actions and that now is the time to move on — move towards a ceasefire in Gaza, make sure that we move in a direction that we’re going to be in a position to make things better for the whole world. It’s time for this war to end and bring these hostages home," Biden said on Thursday, as quoted by the White House.

Moreover, the president stated that he had ordered US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to visit Israel in the next few days. The president also mentioned that he felt more hopeful about a ceasefire and expressed hope that the conflict would end "very soon".

On Thursday, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) officially declared that Sinwar had been eliminated in the Gaza Strip.

According to health authorities in the Gaza Strip, the death toll in the Palestinian enclave has exceeded 42,400, and more than 99,200 people have been injured.
