KPDN Conducts Monitoring To Ensure Traders Comply With Deepavali Price Control

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is carrying out monitoring to ensure that traders comply with the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for Deepavali 2024, which is effective for seven days starting today.

The SHMMP for Deepavali 2024 includes eight items: large imported red onions, Australian yellow dhal, small Indian red and rose onions, red chilies, imported bone-in mutton, whole coconuts, grated coconut, and tomatoes.

In PENANG, State KPDN director, S. Jegan, said that 137 enforcement officers and 62 price monitoring officers had been assigned to strategic locations such as public markets, farmers' markets, and shopping centres selling festive essentials.

This move aims to enhance enforcement effectiveness, allowing for immediate action to be taken in response to consumer complaints or against traders in cases of non-compliance with the price scheme.

He also reported that as of yesterday, 44,080 premises in the state had been inspected, and actions were imposed in 557 cases for various violations. The total seizure amount was RM1.96 million, and the fines were RM250,250.

PERAK KPDN director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said 169 enforcement officers and 70 price monitoring officers will conduct inspections and monitoring throughout the implementation of the Maximum Price Scheme.

KELANTAN KPDN director Azman Ismail announced that the supply of essential goods for the Deepavali celebration this Thursday is adequate. A total of 144 enforcement officers and 84 price monitoring officers will conduct monitoring across the state.

According to JOHOR KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, 200 enforcement officers and 200 price monitoring officers are deployed across the state.

Meanwhile, TERENGGANU KPDN director Saharuddin Mohd Kia informed that 120 of its enforcement personnel and 58 price monitoring officers had been mobilised at strategic locations, including public markets, farmers’ markets, and shopping centres popular with the public for purchasing essential goods.

NEGERI SEMBILAN Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Climate Change, Cooperatives and Consumers Committee chairman S. Veerapan said more than 100 KPDN enforcement officers have been assigned to carry out monitoring.

Meanwhile, 10 supermarkets in SELANGOR were inspected today to ensure compliance with the festive price control.

State Rural Development, Unity, and Consumers Committee chairman Datuk Rizam Ismail told reporters that the monitoring exercise began on Oct 24 following the announcement of the price control scheme that commenced today, involving 277 personnel throughout the state.
