MOSCOW, Nov 5 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- US presidential candidate Donald Trump's desire to end the armed conflict in Ukraine makes his victory in the upcoming elections more preferable, Bundestag member from the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Steffen Kotre told Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
"I assume that Donald Trump is more inclined to end the war between Ukraine and Russia. He has made statements to that effect. He is apparently not as closely connected to the 'deep state' as the Democratic Party.
"Thus, he is not particularly interested in pitting Ukraine against Russia or opening up its assets to American companies. Against this background, it would be welcome if Trump became president, even though one cannot be sure how he would ultimately govern the country," Kotre said in response to a written request from Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
Trump previously promised that he would be able to achieve a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict through negotiations. He has repeatedly stated that he would be able to resolve the conflict in Ukraine in one day. Russia believes that this is too complex a problem for such a simple solution. In addition, Trump has repeatedly criticised the US approach to the conflict in Ukraine and has also criticised Volodymyr Zelensky.
The US presidential election will take place on Tuesday. The Democratic Party will be represented by Vice President Kamala Harris, and the Republican Party by former President Trump.
