Nearly 80,000 Benefited From MyPLUS Community Day Since 2013 Launch

SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Since its launch in 2013, the MyPLUS Community Day programme has reached nearly 80,000 people from selected communities along the North-South Expressway (PLUS), delivering benefits and support to areas in need.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the large-scale corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, a collaboration between highway concessionaire PLUS Malaysia Berhad, the Malaysian Highway Authority and the Works Ministry (KKR), was carefully planned to create lasting, positive impacts on local communities.

“This strategic partnership has enabled us to work collectively to uplift residents’ quality of life and well-being through various community projects.

“This year alone, 25 community projects under the theme ‘Empowering Safe and Smart Communities’ were conducted in selected communities along the PLUS highway, including the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2),” he said.

He was speaking at the MyPLUS Community Day launch at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) HICOM today, also attended by PLUS chairman Datuk Mohamad Nasir Ab Latif.

Besides SK HICOM, activities were held simultaneously at 25 other selected locations nationwide, benefitting over 21,000 residents through a series of community-driven initiatives.

The programme involved upgrades across eight schools, 11 community facilities and six recreational sites, including work such as refurbishing school and mosque facilities, installing safety and directional signage, repainting pedestrian crossings and conducting clean-ups of rivers, parks and beaches.

At SK HICOM, the focus is on upgrading the drainage system to prevent frequent flash floods, an issue that has impacted the school’s daily operations and poses safety risks to the 1,400 students and staff, Nanta said.

“I hope the contributions of PLUS and KKR would create a more comfortable, safe and conducive learning environment for students and teachers,” he said, while also announcing an additional contribution of RM20,000 for the school’s needs.
