SHAH ALAM, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government aims to complete the construction of the Selangor Food Warehouse within the next three years, said State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman Ir Izham Hashim.
He said the warehouse, which will be built on a four-hectare (10-acre) plot in Kuala Selangor, is currently in the process of land rezoning with the local authorities before a ‘request for proposal’ can be issued.
Izham said the warehouse project is a key initiative to enhance food security in the state.
“The Selangor Food Warehouse was first announced by the Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, in the previous 2024 state budget, and we have already begun implementing it in phases.
“While the permanent warehouse facility is under construction, we have already commenced the first phase by leasing temporary storage spaces, such as rice in Sekinchan, beef and buffalo meat in Port Klang and chicken and fish at the wholesale market in Puchong,” he said.
Izham was speaking to newsmen after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the State Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) and Allanason Private Limited today.
The MoU involves the supply of 1,000 metric tonnes of beef and buffalo meat (1 million kg) from Allanason Private Limited to a temporary storage facility in Port Klang, which is expected to meet the needs of Selangor’s population for one month.
He said the collaboration would be expanded in the future, with the aim of ensuring the meat supply can last for up to three months.
“The meat will be distributed through initiatives such as the Rahmah Sales (JER) or at Ehsan Mart, and we will conduct audits at these locations to ensure the warehouse stocks remain at optimal levels,” he said.
