Floods: Kelantan Worsens, Terengganu Improves, Johor Unchanged

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Kelantan has worsened, while conditions in Terengganu are improving and Johor remains unchanged as of 8 pm today.

In KELANTAN, five temporary relief centres (PPS) were opened tonight in the districts of Jeli and Kuala Krai, bringing the total number of evacuees in the state to 141 from 47 families, up from 80 individuals this morning.

According to the Social Welfare Department's (JKM) Info Bencana portal, three PPS were opened in Jeli --Dewan Orang Ramai Kesedar Sungai Satan housing 33 evacuees from 10 families, Masjid Gemang with 27 evacuees from nine families, and Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Legeh with three evacuees from one family.

In Kuala Krai, two PPS were set up at Masjid Chucuh Puteri A, accommodating 37 evacuees from 17 families, and at SK Chenulang, housing five evacuees from two families. In Pasir Mas, the number of evacuees remains unchanged at 36 from eight families, still sheltered at PPS SK Gual To' Deh.

In TERENGGANU, the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat (JPBNT) reported a drop in the number of evacuees to 41 from 10 families, compared to 55 victims this morning. All evacuees remain at PPS SK Simpang Rawai.

A check of the InfoBanjir portal shows that water levels at Sungai Tersat in Kampung Sekayu (F1), Hulu Terengganu; Sungai Besut at Jambatan Keruak, Besut; and Sungai Tebak at Jambatan Tebak, Kemaman have exceeded the warning marks.

Four other locations -- Parit Utama in Padang Kemunting (F1), Kuala Nerus; Sungai Dungun at Kampung Pasir Raja, Dungun; Sungai Kemaman at Jambatan Air Putih, Kemaman; and Sungai Nerus at Kampung Bukit, Setiu -- have surpassed the alert level.

In JOHOR, State Disaster Management Committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani reported that the number of evacuees remains unchanged at 28 from eight families, all from Kampung Seberang Batu Badak, currently housed at PPS Balai Raya Batu Badak in Segamat district.

He noted that two rivers are at warning levels: Sungai Tiram in Kampung Bukit Dagang, Johor Bahru, and Sungai Paya Dato in Mersing.

“Kota Tinggi and Pontian experienced rain tonight, while Johor Bahru and Kluang remained clear, and other districts were cloudy,” he said in a statement.
