KOTA BHARU, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- Sungai Kelantan at Tambatan D'Raja, a popular attraction and landmark here, has overflowed, forcing food vendors to move items from their stalls, including chairs and tables, to safety.
A vendor, Zakaria Abdullah, 47, said the last time the river swelled was during the 2014 flood disaster.
"…I had to pack up and move the plastic chairs and tables, along with all the kitchen items and food, to take them home to prevent them from being swept away by strong currents," he told Bernama tonight.
A satay seller, Nik Azli Nik Azman, 39, said he immediately went to his stall after watching a video showing the condition of Sungai Kelantan near the observation tower on TikTok.
"...I quickly went to the stall and packed up items such as gas cylinders, cooking equipment, as well as chairs and tables," he said, adding that he could not afford to incur losses as he did during the 2014 flooding, which completely crippled the city centre.
A Bernama check in the afternoon also found that a houseboat tied near the observation tower had been swept away and destroyed by the river's strong current.
Today, The Malaysian Meteorological Department warned of continuous heavy rain at a dangerous level for Kelantan and Terengganu and the districts of Kuantan and Jerantut in Pahang until this Friday.
